Datsun Engine Block Cleaning

The next step in our Datsun Engine build series is to clean out all the old rust, grinding dust, grease, oil and grime that has built up from the previous work.

Tools and Equipment:

  • Air Compressor

  • Blow Gun

  • Garden Hose of High Pressure Water Hose

  • Metal Drip Tray

  • Safety Glasses

  • Gloves

  • Respirator Mask

  • Stiff bristle plastic brushes (Harbor Freight PN: 93610)

  • Old Toothbrush

  • Pipe Cleaners

  • WD-40

  • HD Pro Simple Green

Engine Block Cleaning

The engine block was filthy after removing the paint and rust. Time to give it a good clean.

Depending on the amount of dirt and grime you might have to degrease, scrub and rinse off the block multiple times.

Spray down the entire block, water and oil passages with degreaser.

Scrub down the entire engine block.

Scrub out the water and oil galleries.

Rinse out the entire block including the water and oil galleries.

Dry off the entire block with compressed air to prevent rust.

Oil down the cylinder bores and machined surfaces to prevent rust.

Then use a light oil like WD-40 to coat the entire block and prevent rust.
